Dear Class of 1997,​​

Times certainly does fly by, doesn't it? How has 30 years passed us by already? Not sure, but we are excited to get everyone together.

 

I'll be honest, when we planned the 10 year reunion, social media was in its infancy, so the prospect of seeing people without actually knowing what they were up to was exciting. Today, if we want to know what anyone is doing, we just go to their Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or TikTok page. The surprise element is no longer there - unless the person isn't on social media at all. Regardless, I still think getting together is so much fun. I had a blast at the 20 year reunion seeing people I hadn't seen in a very long time as well as listening to stories I had not heard in ages. Hopefully, we get to replicate and top that in 2027 for our 30th!

Andrew Burke (your senior class president) and I are currently in the planning phase of the event(s). If you are local, it should be super easy as they will all be in Broward County. If you now reside out of town, we understand it takes a little more planning, budgeting and coordination and this is the reason we wanted to get this date out nice and early - so you can properly prepare ahead of time. We are working with different hotels to separate a block of rooms at a discounted rate for those who might be interested. Airbnbs in the area are also plenty.

We contemplated many ideas and events. Our initial thought process was to do a cruise, but after asking around, we decided against it. A cruise is a big time commitment and not to mention the financial aspect of it especially for families. We agreed on multiple events so people could pick whichever they might want to attend. Ideally, we want everyone to go to all of the events, but it's understandable if you can't or don't want to.

Everyone loves a comedy show - that's a no brainer. I'll book some of the best comedians in South Florida to come and make us laugh. Oh, I'll also headline it - DUH! We'll probably pick a place to drink and socialize afterwards.

​

The Jungle Queen is a nostalgia pick because many of us went on it in middle school and haven't been on it since although it's a Fort Lauderdale staple. We are working with them to have our own area on board so we can socialize. We looked into chartering the whole thing but being a Saturday, it's an astronomical amount that we are definitely not reaching even if every single person in our class attends and pays top dollar.

Top Golf is a fun event where people can go take out their anger by hitting golf balls as far as they please. You'd be surprised how therapeutic that can actually be. It's way better - and healthier - than kicking the wall. We are looking into having our own private area so we can mingle and still have access to hit balls.

Throughout the next couple of months, we will be nailing down the exact information regarding all events including times and pricing of events.
